Last night Pete Rock and Smif N Wessun were in the midst of celebrating the release of their new collaborative project Monumental when the police swarmed the concert. I spoke to Jay Diamond whose video of the event has been circulating on the internet and according to her first hand account police were attempting to clear the premises after an unrelated fight took place outdoors. However when they entered Tammany Hall they began macing, pushing, and being overly excessive with their force (to say the least). What resulted was chaos and mayheim. Big ups to everyone who put their cameras, phones, twitters and youtube to good use taping and spreading the news in a real grassroots way from the people. Legendary hip-hop artists Pete Rock and Smif-N-Wessun celebrated their album release party at New York City’s Tammany Hall last night, but then when celebration ended, things turned violently ugly.

STORY: Police Brutality Gone Wild

Eyewitnesses videotaped New York City police officers being overly aggressive toward the crowd that had gathered after the party.

UK DJ/Presented Jay Diamond released the 8 minute video, showing NYPD brutally attack a young man. It’s unknown what sparked the melee, but the video shows that many of the NYPD officers were being aggressive when trying to disperse the crowd.

In the video you can hear NYPD telling people, ‘Fuck off! Get off the block!’

This is the type of thing that goes on between the police & the common people. This is proof of the disconnect and the underlying hatred that NYPD has for the citizens they are suppose to protect and serve.
