Kweli has become the leader of an evolution in the hip hop industry that has been long overdue. Finally the artist is free from the politics of the music industry, no longer enslave to their desire to market “dumbed down” music. Talib Kweli “Gutter Rainbows” is the example, not only did he do all his promotion via Twitter, Facebook, & other social sites but also the music videos. Being #1 on iTunes & just the fact that many of the other rappers and celebrity are encouraging their fans to support independence the internet has indeed given back power to the people, if used wisely.

Today makes me happy as a fan of the artist and the music.

I agree @Fausto , But how do you think hip-hop is evolving as a whole.. To me its getting very crossed over in between pop in a way ..like the futuristic and not necessarily what is identified in hip-hop of what Talib does…Wish there were even more that want to have a approach like him.

    I completely agree with Fausto.

hip hop is crossing into the pop era. i feel like hip hop need to go back to the roots. Like instead of focusing on getting a record deal promote yourself because these major labels change the talent that got an artist recognized to begin with. if we got to go back to old tape players with a corner of a room/ closet be the booth, then so be it. hip hop in its raw form is it’s true form.

i think it depends on the artist who are the vanguard: the word I use is unity – a collective effort. That’s why although I’m not a fan of Lil’ Wayne’s music I respect his hustle and his commitment to his team. Lets see the soulquarians lets see more of ATCQ, thats what made them a force to start their career – and while their solo efforts are a success let them not forget that with their unification their music was made more powerful.

I love this thread! Hip hop evolution begs the question “what is hip hop?” and a torrent of ideas ensue.

It IS about the Hustle, and it IS about the strategies that make for success in creating a better life for ourselves, our loved ones and everyone else.

It IS about the purity of artistic integrity, genuine self-expression and fealressness to pursue peace, truth and justice in the most skillful way possible.

But it’s also about the balance between these two aspects.

My team at Little Brother Creative has developed a game that intuitively teaches just that.

Legend oft he Cipher uses the format of strategy-based trading card games, like Yugioh or Magic: the Gathering (typically a ‘Geek’ niche, wherein there is NOTHING on hip hop), and used it to gamify an MBA’s worth of education in manage a hip hop career, then integrated that card play with authentic cipher culture to produce a game that transforms players thinking and abilities in hip hop’s arts, entrepreneurial shema, it’s history and culture. Rather literally, hip hop’s hustle and flow.

We have a Kickstarter going, we’re in the middle of a multi-tiered networking campaign, and we’re set to debut our Beta release at Comic Con NY, courtesy of The Lair.

Please give us a quick look to see just how much positive potential we’ve packed into this overwhelmingly viable social market plan.

    Bless, and metta to all,
