IDLE WARSHIP

Some of the best things in life happen unexpectedly…especially when great
musical chemistry and camaraderie factor into the equation. Supergroup Idle
Warship is living proof of this idea. When longtime friends and musical
collaborators hip hop luminary Talib Kweli and critically acclaimed
singer/songwriter Res got together to record a few tracks under the moniker
Idle Warship, they were just a couple of “studio rats” having a good time
doing what they love to do best. However, by the time their respective fans
got a taste of what they had been cooking up from some online postings, it
was clear that they had something bigger on their hands. Although Res had
already been featured on every Talib Kweli album to date and the two had
performed together numerous times as solo artists, for the first time the
duo found themselves being booked for photo shoots, interviews and live
performances as a group. Idle Warship has been on a veritable creative
mission ever since; writing, recording and performing relentlessly all over
the world.

Bringing together a hodgepodge of musical genres through their
individual influences and sensibilities from hip hop to alternative and
soul, Idle Warship has already embarked on their first successful European
tour (with full band in tow), tore down the SXSW stage with two amazing
showcases (that still have the industry heads buzzing) and released a full
length offering with mixtape master DJ Mick Boogie and singer/songwriter
Graph Nobel entitled, Party Robot. The independently released set includes
fan favorites such as: “Black Snake Moan” “Steady” and “Bedroom Lights.”
Though the group initially planned to release Party Robot commercially, in
the end they decided to offer it as a free download to the very fans that
helped bring them together in the first place. It ultimately paid off as the
fans continue to express their appreciation and are now incessantly begging
for more: mission accomplished. Still, this early success is but a catalyst
for yet another beginning for the group. Through their labor of love, music,
Idle Warship hopes to spread their message of free creative expression with
the release of their debut album on Blacksmith/Element 9/Fontana dropping
later this year.
